Online beauty retailers will benefit loads from using YouTube’s latest feature that offers realistic, virtual product samples.

Google announced recently a new YouTube feature that lets online shoppers try on makeup products before buying them.

Called AR Beauty Try-On, the tool was built using augmented reality technology that lets the audience of a makeup tutorial video try on different shades of lipstick, blush, and foundation, among other products before deciding which color and brand to go for.

Considering that beauty-related videos generated more than 169 billion views in 2018, according to online statistics portal Statista, beauty brands that team up with makeup Youtubers or influencers are guaranteed to get higher exposure and revenues.

As of April of the current year, the top three makeup YouTubers are Yuya, Jeffree Star, and Wengie.

AR and 3D go hand in hand

MAC Cosmetics is the first brand to partner with Famebit, a marketing platform that connects YouTube influencers with brands, for AR Beauty Try-On. Google says brands who follow suit will be able to take advantage of YouTube’s 2 billion monthly active users and measure their results in real time.

“We tested this experience earlier this year with several beauty brands and found that 30 percent of viewers activated the AR experience in the YouTube iOS app, spending over 80 seconds on average trying on lipstick virtually.” – Aaron Luber, Head of Branded Experiences (AR and VR), Google

Aside from giving beauty brands the ability to offer virtual product testing, Google will also launch Swirl through Display and Video 360.

This new tool enables brands to create product ads in a three-dimensional display format, allowing online shoppers to explore and see a product from different angles before making a purchase.

Google’s new tools will be available to brands and marketers this summer. Tell us what you think of them in the comments below or over in our Facebook Group.
