Just a couple days ago BigCommerce launched their Instagram integration offering shoppable posts for all their U.S. based clients.
Now Shopify is also offering the same functionality. The company has been testing the service with a small group but announced they are expanding the test to include a broader client base.
The Shopify landing page for the Instagram integration still mentions it is a test. But if you want to get in line for this new integration, sign up here.
Instagram has been allowing select large eCommerce retailers to test shoppable ads for a while. The inclusion of BigCommerce and Shopify makes this feature available to small online businesses.
Shopify with over 500,000 eCommerce stores is by far the larger of the two SaaS eCommerce platforms. This large client base is likely the reason for the staged roll-out as not to overload their back-end systems when store owners are pushing product posts to Instagram.
INSTAGRAM BECOMING THE NEXT ECOMMERCE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM?
While fashion and other eCommerce retailers have long used Instagram to post “ads”, the fact it was not possible to create links back to the product hindered conversion.
With Shopify and BigCommerce adding this functionality, can others be far behind?
There has been no announcement from Instagram to this possibility. Right now Shopify and BigCommerce clients may gain a significant advantage for this holiday season over eCommerce sellers on other platforms.
What are your thoughts about Instagram? If you are on Shopify, will sign up for Instagram integration? Would you switch to Shopify or BigCommerce if the platform you are using doesn’t offer this integration? Let us know in the comments section below.
