Etsy Introduces New Tools for Sellers to Promote Listings

While Etsy is publically experimenting around a bit with search, the company did announce access to new tools to help sellers promote their products.

Etsy stated that research shows 71% of Etsy shoppers look for the best deal on products they wish to buy. The new sales and coupons tools will help seller attract those buyers.

To help implement the new tools, Etsy decided on a phased release, which gives all sellers some time to digest the new features and even test them before they go public.

PREVIEW AVAILABLE NOW

Etsy sellers can go to the Marketing section of your Shop Manager and preview the new sales and coupon tools. If you are already using coupon codes, they will continue to stay active.

In the Marketing section, you can experiment with setting the parameters for each sales and coupon tool and learn the ins and outs of the new features.

Anything you do here will not be live until later in the month.

ON AUGUST 8 YOU CAN PREVIEW THE NEW EXPERIENCE

Starting on August 8, the sales and coupon promotions you set will go live on the site. But here again, the company is only showing you the seller how your listings will look.

With this early access to viewing your listings with the sales and coupon promotions enabled gives you the opportunity to make sure the results match your expectations.

A few shoppers will also gain access to these previews, so you can see how they work with your listings. You can call this a live mini-beta test.

SITEWIDE AVAILABILITY WILL COMMENCE ON AUGUST 22

Starting on August 22, shoppers will see all sales and coupon promotions created by sellers live on the Etsy.

Buyers will see the new search filters and updates on the listings pages that you were able to preview the last few weeks.

WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF THE NEW TOOLS

The new scheduling tool will enable you to incorporate discounts and special offers into marketing plans for your shop. You can schedule a sale or create a coupon code to share with individual buyers.

Discounts can range from 10 percent to 70 percent and you can also set order minimums.

Etsy is also providing you with a marketing calendar that shows you key shopping dates throughout the year. The calendar even offers suggestions for products that sell well during those times.

New filters will make it easy for buyers to search for products that are on sale. When a listing is on sale, Etsy will update the associated listing pages and listing cards in search results.

Etsy will provide strike-through pricing to highlight the sale price and also prevent buyers from using multiple offers on the same listing.

On the coupon side, Etsy will now have a unique URL for each coupon. You can share those on social media, blogs, or online forums.

When a shopper clicks on the coupon link, the coupon is added to the cart. There will be one more improvement on this feature rolled out later that allows you to restrict coupons to specific listings in your shop.

And finally, Etsy is providing you full performance details on your promotions. This data gives you information that can help you plan future promotions or avoid those that do not work.

ETSY ON THE RIGHT TRACK?

It seems that Etsy is going in the right direction to update the Marketing section. Sellers asked for many of the new features for years.

While current management can’t take full credit for the improvements, as most of this work started earlier in the year, these changes are good.

There is still a lot of uncertainty about the future of Etsy, but at least the platform is evolving to industry standards. It should keep Etsy sellers from looking elsewhere.
