eBay – Reminds Sellers to Streamline Return Policies

Ebay issues a reminder to sellers that they must streamline their return policies.

Back in May 2018, eBay made updates to the available return policies.

The five new return policies are as follows:

  • No returns accepted
  • 30-day buyer-paid returns
  • 30-day free returns
  • 60-day buyer-paid returns
  • 60-day free returns

Sellers are encouraged to check and update their listings now to ensure they are up to date with the current policy.

More information is available from eBay here.

Visibility

It is important to note that not changing existing return policies to the new streamlined policies may results in listings becoming not visible or downgraded in search.

While this is an inconvenience to some sellers, bulk editing tools from eBay and third-party vendors do make it easier.

  1. Since the return policies went from an open free text field to only pre-selected, eBay-sanctioned return options available from a drop-down list, it is curious that any seller needs prompting or reminding to change them?

It’s also odd and annoying that when clicking through the message there’s no way to see or action only the listings with a problem.

Another example of eBay’s chronic execution missteps and inefficiencies in practice.
