Amazon has agreed to acquire warehouse robotics startup Canvas Technology for an undisclosed amount.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to Reuters the purchase by stating that both companies “share a common vision for a future where people work alongside robotics to further improve safety and the workplace experience. We look forward to working with Canvas Technology’s fantastic team to keep inventing for customers.”
As Amazon continues to expand its warehouse operations and face criticism from labor activists about pay and working conditions at its warehouses, the company is beefing up autonomous operations.
According to Robotics Business Review, “Canvas Technology is a robotics company using spatial AI to provide end-to-end autonomous delivery of goods. By using state-of-the-art cameras and other sensors, the system perceives its surroundings with unrivaled vision and fidelity.”
This is definitely the type of technology and company that can help Amazon expand its autonomous warehouse operations and make its fulfillment services even more efficient.
